Other Birds - Sarah Addison Allen

Favorite Quotes

"He was secure in the knowledge that when a reader falls in love with a book, they have no choice but to fall in love with the author, too"

"Mothering was in the details you never saw. And the lack of it was the things you always noticed."

"Food was really about storytelling. I was about creating something good, and then giving it away"

*I also think learning how to make recipes tells a story too.  I tell my kiddos all the time about cooking with my grandmother and my grandparents' favorite recipes.

Sarah Addison Allen delivers another great book!  I love the quirkiness of the characters and the story.  It evolves as you get deeper into the book and has a wonderful and a little surprising conclusion.  This is a magical unique story with characters that draws you into their worlds.  Each character has a unique story and a few of them surprised me.  I love in this book the way friends turn into more.

I received this Netgalley book for free in exchange for an honest review.

Read-a-thon Update

 3:30pm Update

Finished the last 1.5 hours or so

Finished the last 20 pages

Other Birds: In-Progress

Opening Survey Hour 4

11:00am Hour 4 in the read-a-thon - not for me!

I have only read about 2 hours, not great, but better than a normal weekend!

I have worked:

Other Birds -1 hour

The Spanish Love Deception  - 30 minutes

Midnight Library - 30 Minutes Finished.  This is my second time reading this book and I am not a re-reader.  I just loved it as much as the first - it is a story of hope and perserverance.

Opening Meme

What fine part of the world are you reading from today?

 North of Cincinnati, OH, USA

Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to?
Other Birds.  I love Sarah Addison Allen books.  I was so lucky to get a NetGalley of her newest book!  1 hour into it and it is wonderful.

Which snack are you most looking forward to?
My favorite cookie - 7 layer bars  and cold brew coffee with vanilla cream

Tell us a little something about yourself!
I am reading with a lot of distractions - 3 kiddos the oldest 15 and the youngest 8.  Sadly they still expect to eat today.  I think we will be doing pizza for dinner and left overs for lunch!

If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today? If this is your first read-a-thon, what are you most looking forward to?
I am tracking my hours closer.  For me just having a day that I tell everyone I am reading and not doing anything else - and reading! Makes the day a success and today I am succeeding!

Dewey's Spring Read-a-thon!

One of my favorite days of the year is here.  I am participating in the read-a-thon again this year! Yeah!  I am taking a little bit different approach this year - tracking the minutes read. It will not be 24 hours for sure!

I am reading:

Other Birds - Kindle (New Read)

Midnight In the Library - Physical Book (only have a couple of chapters to go)

Lost - Physical book - (New read)

The Spanish Love Deception - Audio (I think about 30 minutes left)

Chinese Girl in the Ghetto - Audio (Book club book and the meeting is Thursday!)

I have cold brew coffee made and 7 layer magic bars  :)  I am sure I will have many breaks to deal with my kiddos - to take and pickup one from work...and probably tons of other things.

If I can get a few solid hours in reading then I will be very happy!  I want to make a dent in my new books and finish the ones that are nearly done! :)

Moment In Time - Suzanne Redfearn

This book was like visiting a good friend.  The characters from "In an Instant Return" to continue their stories.  I loved re-visiting them!  The stories diverged in ways I didn't expect, so that was a fun surprise! I love the writing and the new characters that appeared.  Although I think it could be read as a stand alone it is nice knowing what happened to the characters before the this book.  I received this book from NetGalley for an honest review.

The Last House on the Street – Diane Chamberlain

This book was intense.  It was intense, because I liked the characters and didn’t want to see drama in their lives or see them make choices that put them in harms way.  It was interesting to see the perspective of the Civil Rights movement and the current timeline showing how things had changed.  There was a couple of mysteries to be solved during the book and a unique way of joining both timelines together, which I really liked.  I would recommend this book and it would make for a good discussion with other readers.  I listened to this on audio and very much enjoyed the production!

Thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the audio copy of this book.
