4 Days to go!

The read-a-thon is this weekend!! I have been waiting for this day since Dewey annouced it!! Are you interested in reading for 24 hours? Don't worry the reading police aren't going to get you if you don't read for the entire 24 hours! Dewey set up a great site for fequently asked questions here.

We also still need cheerleaders -so if you don't want to commit to reading but would love to read and comment on the blogs of people who have signed up please let me know (I am orginizing the cheerleaders). Or if you are interesting in hosting a mini-challenge and getting people to visit your blog let me know that to! I have set up a blog here for cheerleaders.

Check back this weekend to see how I am doing - I have a long list of books to read! I am thrilled about this weekend since I usually only get 2 hours during my darling daughter's girl's nap - and that is only on the weekends!!

Read-a-thon Meme!

In honor of Dewey who hosting her 2nd 24 hour Read-a-thon here is a Meme for all of us to pass around until the big day (June 28)!

If I had 24 hours to read, be my goals would be… read, read, read! I would like to set a goal of finishing 3 books or maybe 2,000 pages... that is about 84 pages an hour.

This is what I am going to have to do to get 24 hours of reading…I am going to a hotel! I asked for a hotel room for my Mother's Day gift. :) I know that sounds weird, but for me it's a vacation day from motherhood! My husband is very willing to take over our daughter for the day so I am lucky here (but only for special occasions or short jaunts). I have a friend, Trish who I have convinced to join me for 24 hours of reading. So I think it will be a fun time! How great that I have a friend who wants a break just to read too!!

If someone asked me for recommendations of “can’t put down” books for the read-a-thon, I would recommend:

The Other Boleyn Girl - Philippa Gregory (I just got done reading this and loved it, but it's a little long probably for the read-a-thon)
Life As We Knew it - Susan Beth Pfeffer (this is in diary format and a can't put down book)
One Thousand White Women - Jim Furgus (I read this book 5 years ago and still tell people how wonderful it is - one of my all time top 10 favorites! This is also in Diary Format)

If you participated in the October 2007 read-a-thon:
For you, what was your favorite part of the October read-a-thon and why?
How many hours/ books/ pages were you able to read in the Read-a-thon?
I didn't participate in the October 2007 Read-a-thon, but watched the posts and regretted not being involved!! This time I am signed up!!
When you get done tag 5 people to carry on the Meme. I am going to tag the other read-a-thon cheerleaders:
Eva - Eva has a great post about the read-a-thon last year here if you are interested.
Natasha (I will post her blog link soon)
And Becky - who isn't a cheerleader (yet - he he) but hosts a great book club (where I discovered Susan Beth Pfeffer)
Also if anyone is interested in being a cheerleader please sign up on the read-a-thon site. I am organizing the cheerleaders and it would be great to have more! If you are wondering what this entails it can be just popping into people's sites to encourage them to keep going and/or running a mini-challenge during the read-a-thon (and like the Read-a-thon there aren't any cheer leading police to make sure you stay up the 24 hours!). There are logs of mini-challenge ideas on the cheerleader blog. If you are reading this and want to do the meme leave me a comment! I would love to see your responses!

24 Hour Read-A-Thon

Dewey at The Hidden Side of a Leaf is hosting her second 24 hour read-a-thon! This will be my first time participating but I observed in October and it looked like a blast!! So this year I am joining and I am going to be a cheerleader! It is June 28 & June 29 starting at 9:00 Pacific DST - which is noon for me in Louisville. Let me know if you are going to join!!
